Dear Friends and Family:
I wanted to share with you all an exciting ministry opportunity that God has presented to me. When I was a junior in high school I got to go on a missions trip to New York City with my youth group from Oakwood Baptist Church. Brooklyn Baptist Fellowship was a church we partnered with while on that trip. Dr. Craig Hartman spoke to our youth group about Jewish culture and his ministry in Israel. For the past four years, I have been praying about the possibility of going on this particular five-week missions trip.
The trip dates are May 15- June 22. My fellow team members and I will start with a week and a half in New York City. We will partake in morning classroom training and study various topics of the Bible that will aid in better contextual Bible study. Our afternoons will consist mainly of outreach opportunities and street evangelism to the many cultures in NYC. Evenings will be spent in preparation for many ministry opportunities we will be involved in upon our arrival in Israel.
On our way to Israel, we will stop in Poland to visit the Auschwitz/ Birkenau concentration camps and study what preceded the formation of the modern State of Israel. After Poland, we will spend just over 3 weeks in Israel. While we are in Israel we will have incredible opportunities to visit the Biblical sites and have many hours of instruction in Bible study and geography. During our time in Israel, we will be assisting 3 different congregations in a variety of ways. Some of the ministry opportunities Shalom Ministries has been involved with in the past include tract distribution, music ministry at churches,
assistance with and preparation of a new wing in a mental hospital run jointly by Jews and Arabs, landscaping and repair work for a Messianic day school, food distribution to the poor and refugees, cleaning sections of the Jordan River, fruit gathering/ harvesting for the needy, assisting unbelievers in the operation of their olive farm, and open-air singing and evangelism.
While God has opened up a door for me to develop a greater heart of compassion for His people around the world, I am excited that you will be able to share in this compassion with me. First, you can pray for me. Please pray that God would prepare my heart for a summer full of ministry opportunities. I also am asking that you would partner in prayer with me that my financial needs for this trip will be met. I am praying that God will provide $5,000 for this five-week trip. I know that is a lot, but I know my God is faithful. I feel strongly that Israel is where God wants me this summer, and I am trusting for His provision.
