On Saturday, August 11, we hosted a large group of family for the gender reveal for Baby Davis. It was a fun evening as we enjoyed pork barbeque, chips, salad, and some of the most amazing salsa I have ever tasted thanks to Jamie’s mom Darlene who brought it from a restaurant in Rock Hill. For dessert, Abby made some beautiful and delicious cupcakes. Kris and Bethany came down from Raleigh and were also able to join us.
At 7:00 p.m., we went live on Facebook and Instagram so other family members and friends could tune in to see the reveal. Everyone was told to wear blue or pink to show whether they thought it was a boy or a girl. I was uncommitted. I really didn’t have a gut feeling either way. I was seriously praying for ten fingers and ten toes. I wore a blue t-shirt with a pink collared shirt on top that had blue pineapples on it. As you can see, my sister Julie was also non-committal.
Jamie’s mom was the only one who was supposed to know if it was a boy or a girl. She told her husband David though. She said, “What if something happens to me?” They didn’t let on to us in any way if it was a girl or a boy. One was wearing blue and the other pink. Darlene had gotten a plastic football that was full of a colored powder. She had also given to each of the parents or grandparents a confetti cannon. I yelled out, “Down, set, hut, hut…” Caleb made a beautiful punt. The football exploded with blue powder going everywhere as the cannons sprayed the blue confetti. It’s a boy! After Caleb and Jamie kissed each other, I embraced my son. He said, “The Davis name lives on.” I took off my pink shirt and swung it around like Elvis did when he threw his jacket into the crowd.
One thing my dad used to say was, “Life is precious.” It really is. Life is a gift from God. Joanna and I are blessed to have four healthy children that love and serve God. Joanna also had three miscarriages so I believe there are three other precious children in Heaven. I know Caleb and Jamie would appreciate your prayers as this baby is growing and preparing for his appearing. Several have said to me, “So, you’re going to be a grandpa.” Actually, I already am, if I truly believe that this is a baby and not just a fetus. Now, comes the struggle of determining my grandparent name.
