This month’s Update opens in Cancún, where I’ve been serving alongside EMU missionaries Marco and Gwendolyn Núñez. One of the most sobering moments came as we ministered to a grieving church whose pastor, José Luis Uc, recently lost his wife, Martha, after a battle with cancer. Sitting with this dear brother and watching his church cling to hope brought me back to Jesus’ words in John 11: “I am the resurrection and the life… Believest thou this?”
That question—asked first to another grieving Martha—has echoed through every service, every visit, every tear-filled conversation here in Mexico. Passion Week reminds us that before resurrection morning came, there was a family standing beside a tomb, trying to believe. And today, churches like this one are doing the same. Your partnership allows us to stand with them, strengthening pastors and encouraging missionaries who walk through valleys few ever see.
This month’s update also includes:
- A look back at March’s ministry travels—from Uruguay to Minneapolis to North Carolina and Florida—filled with preaching opportunities, missions emphasis, and rich time with family (including plenty of snow and sweet moments with our grandson Jud).
- A behind-the-scenes glimpse at home life, including Bethany’s family’s visit over their Spring Break. Also, an unexpected termite discovery and the long days of clearing, cleaning, and preparing for treatment—made possible with the help of our son‑in‑law, Kris.
- A preview of the April EMU International Newsletter, highlighting the theme of cross-cultural collaboration with stories from Uruguay, Mexico, and a 24-member team from Bethany Baptist (NC) serving at Camp Emanuel.
- Prayer requests for my current trip to Mexico (March 30–April 8), during which I will preach seven times across five churches and continue encouraging national pastors and missionaries.
